Condolence: I was shocked and truly saddened to learn of Marie's passing. Having regularly interacted with her throughout her years at Michigan Tech until my retirement a few years ago, I respected her knowledge, efficiency, attention to detail, and care for the students. She facilitated many, many students in getting appropriate work, scholarships, and financial assistance to start and continue their education. Most of all, she offered her best, a generous spirit, and a great, patient smile. My sincere condolences extend to her daughter, Kaisa, of whom she always spoke with pride, her family, and friends.

I knew Marie as a co-worker and also a friend whom I could go to with any concerns of a student at MTU. Condolence: An annual staff retreat took place just after I began working at Tech earlier this summer. We were paired with folks from different departments so we could get to know each other. Marie was at my table. She was so kind, pleasant and approachable that she truly put me at ease. I'm so grateful! It was a comfort to see her familiar face on campus, to just exchange a greeting in passing. She helped me feel at home. From what I hear from my colleagues, that quality was appreciated by many, many students and co-workers. May you cherish your memories, feel the respect and affection so many hold for her, and find comfort in knowing that love is eternal!
