CHARLES E. HEIN, 76, answered his Lord’s call to go to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 2007 after a brief illness.
Charlie, or Chuck, as he was called by his friends was born on March 16, 1930 the son of Adolph and Elizabeth Hein of Laurium. He was married to Diana Lasanen of Calumet on November 1, 1952 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Laurium where he’s been a member all of his life.
Chuck graduated from Calumet High School in 1948, Michigan Tech with a Bachelor Degree in Forestry in 1953 and in 1973 he received his Masters Degree in Forestry also from Michigan Tech. He worked for 19 years as a Forester for C & H, then he taught Forestry and Surveying subjects at MTU for 23 years where he was instrumental in the Survey Degree Program started and was also a self employed land surveyor. He was a registered Forester and Surveyor in Michigan and Wisconsin and was a member of many professional organizations. Also in High School and College he was a star basketball player. He also served in the United States Airforce from 1948-1949. Chuck also enjoyed gardening at his farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana
Daughter Cathy and Jim Johnson of Laurium
Son, Steve and Allison Hein of Laurium
Five grandchildren, Adam Johnson, Dan Hein, Sarah (Carlos) Baiz, Matt Hein and Leah Hein
One sister, Elizabeth Johnson of Rock Island, IL
One brother, Bob (Carol) Hein of Bellbrook, OH
Four nephews, one grand-nephew and several cousins in Germany.
The funeral service for Mr. Hein will be held 11 AM Saturday, at the St Paul Lutheran Church in Laurium with Pastor James Fundum officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Friday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet and one hour prior to the service at church.
