Our History

Otto Oscar Alexander Peterson originally established the Peterson Funeral Home in 1911. He was the son of Henrick and Ellvaria Peterson and came to the United States from Sweden at the age of five with his parents and sister, Maria. The business was originally called the O.O.A. (Otto Oscar Alexander) Peterson Funeral Home and was located on Pine Street in Calumet. Otto passed away in 1949 and his son, Gordon Arthur Peterson took over the business which he operated at that location, along with an ambulance service, he also operated the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock. In 1974 he sold the funeral home in Hancock and built the present-day Peterson Funeral Home on Mine Street in Calumet. Gordon retired in 1999 and his son Karl, became the owner and director of the family business.
